Some wines tell the story of a place. This one tells the story of two people.
This year, Caroline and I celebrate twenty-five years together. To mark this milestone, we are honored to release Cuvée Caroline, a one-time bottling dedicated to the woman who has been my partner in every sense of the word.
The photograph above was taken in 1998, in Beaune, Burgundy, where our story began. We were young students—Caroline studying wine sales and marketing, I studying enology and viticulture—coming from different countries, cultures, and languages, with little more than curiosity, ambition, and a shared love of wine. We had no way of knowing that this small French town would become the beginning of a life together.
What followed has been an extraordinary ride.
Together, we crossed an ocean, planted roots in Oregon, built a winery from the ground up, and raised a family alongside a growing winery and vineyards. We watched our children grow just as we watched the Oregon wine industry mature into one of the world’s great wine regions. There were exhilarating harvests, difficult vintages, long days, uncertain years, and countless moments that tested us. Through it all, we kept moving forward together.
Twenty-seven years after founding Bergström Wines with Josh’s family, we remain family-owned, family-operated, and deeply committed to the same ideals that inspired us at the beginning: making honest wines that reflect this remarkable place and honoring the people who make them possible.
Cuvée Caroline is a tribute to the quiet strength behind that journey. Caroline has always preferred to stay out of the spotlight, but anyone who knows our family knows her influence can be found everywhere—in the culture of our winery, in our family, and in the steady grace that has carried us through every season.
Like the woman for whom it is named, this wine is one of quiet confidence, elegance, and depth. It is a celebration not only of twenty-five years together, but of the unlikely love story of two young people from opposite sides of the world who chose to build a life—and a winery—together.
We are grateful to so many of you for being part of this journey. Your friendship, encouragement, and support have allowed our family’s story to become part of yours.
